Citizenship
My child came from far away
To the shores of this great land,
To make a mark and take a stand
And leave some footprints in the sand
Because of this, my thoughts are turned
To our forefathers of long ago,
Who came in search of freedom
And a better life to know.
No matter what our origin
Or the color of our skin,
We people in America
Share that name called citizen.
It's a gift we often take for granted
For it came to us birth's easy way,
But many others wait and wait
For a better life in this great USA
And so today I celebrateWith my child of foreign birth
The gift of freedom held so dear
And revered by people 'round the earth
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
