THE MANY FACES OF EMILEE
The hat Emilee is wearing has a cute and touching story behind it. After we got Emilee we spent a week in Hong Kong. My best friend David is originally from Hong Kong and asked his friend to show us around. Davids friend Dennis was such a sweet guy but David neglected to take into fact that we did not speak Chinese and Dennis didn't speak English. ( You can tell we had very stimulating conversations.) Dennis tried so hard to show us HK though the eyes ( and mouth) as a HK native. He took us all around and I have to say we had a fun time. The next day we took a city tour bus so we finally were able to understand what we saw the day before. It was a sweet thought on both David and Dennis part. When Dennis met us for the first time he was carrying a big box and handed it to us with great pride. I'm sure he tried to explain what was in the box but I couldn't read the subtitles. The inside of the box was wrapped with bubble wrap and tissue paper and looked very secure so i never opened it. I said thank you and at first thought "OK how am i getting this Hugh box home". In fact i carried it on the plane home. A few days after we returned back to the US I opened the box to find a great surprise. Dennis has bought Emilee a sterling silver hand crafted first child's hat; complete with a stand that is just as pretty. The workmanship in sterling siler on the hat is stunning with a scene depicting the Empires guard of the Han Dynasty. It has little silver bells and leaves hanging from the bottom to ward off evil spirits and lotus flowers on springs popping out of the top to bring blessings to the child. The hat is elegantly embroidered. When i told David what Dennis had given me he was very surprised with how generous he was. Not only is the hat a great treasure that Emilee will have forever, but it also symbolized the generosity of a stranger who through the goodness and kindness of his heart wanted to welcome Emilee to her new family with a tradition that belonged to her. For that I an forever grateful.
